Hot-hitting Comets swing past Imperial Valley in opening series

SAN MARCOS, CA (3/15/2022) -- The hot hitting Comets did not forget to bring their bats when they prepared for their opening series against Imperial Valley College. They won game one 17-1 and game two 25-1 to improve to 14-6 overall and sweep their first conference opponent this season.

The Comets, who have both the home runs leader and strikeout leader on their roster, continue to roll. In game one, sophomore catcher Devlin Lindeman homered twice, one a 3-run bomb and the second a 2-run roundtripper. Freshman outfielder Jack Sanders was the other Comet who recorded a fourbagger, his, however, was a grand slam in the first inning of game two. An inning where the Comets scored 15 runs. The Comets have hit for the cycle six times this season, two came from this series.

The offense was not the only show in town. The Comet pitching staff put on some of their best work this season. Dylan Delvecchio, the state strikeout leader, recorded 12 on Saturday, a season high and career-tying best. He allowed just one hit. He passed the ball to Ethan Sally, who came in for one inning of relief. Chris Paruleski and Sebastian Cueva also pitched one inning. All three relievers recorded two strikeouts each. On Tuesday, Trent Lopez started for the Comets and in two innings pitched he allowed just one hit and recorded two strikeouts. Paruleski, Cueva, Sally, Sebasitian Castro and Eric Van Allen were in relief for Palomar. The bullpen allowed six hits and had eight strikeouts.

The Comets move to 14-6 overall and 4-2 in PCAC play.
