Hemphill and Luna join transfer class

Sophomore Comets Brandon Luna and Noah Hemphill have officially committed to play baseball at the next level. Luna, the first baseman from Vista Murrieta High School, has committed to Utah Valley State University, while Hemphill committed to Missouri Baptist University.

Luna began his Comet career during the 2018 season where he played in 21 games. In 18 at-bats that season, he had five hits, two RBIs and one double. This past season, Luna had 10 RBIs and four doubles on 16 hits. He totaled 54 at-bats before the season ended due to COVID-19. He had three stolen bases this season. His freshman year, Luna had a perfect fielding percentage totaling 19 putouts. In his final season, he had 97 putouts, 13 double plays and recorded two errors for a fielding percentage of .981.

Hemphill played outfield for the Comets and came from Las Vegas, NV where he graduated from Coronado High School. In 187 total at-bats, Hemphill recorded 10 doubles, one career home run and 31 RBIs on 62 hits. His home run came on Mar. 9 in a 19-2 victory over Imperial Valley College. In the outfield, Hemphill recorded a perfect fielding percentage this season with 22 putouts in the 13 games he played in. He finished his career with a .958 fielding percentage.

Utah Valley went 5-14 this past season before their season ended and Missouri Baptist was 11-8. Utah Valley is an NCAA Division I school and competes in the Western Athletic Conference for baseball. Missouri Baptist is an NAIA school and competes in the American Midwest Conference.
