Baseball season wrap-up

SAN MARCOS, CA (3/20/2020) -- Baseball was on a five-game winning streak before the suspension and later cancelation of their season. After splitting the first two games with Grossmont College, Palomar went on to sweep Southwestern College and Imperial Valley and took game one of the series against San Diego Mesa College. The Comets had a rough go for pre-season competitions but were able to get back in the win column when Pacific Coast Athletic Conference play began. Palomar currently sits on first place in conference with a 6-1 record.

Sophomore outfielder Cameron Rowles leads in the team in hitting. In 80 at-bats, he has 24 hits including two doubles and a homerun to along with 15 RBIs. He has four stolen bases on the season. Sophomore outfielder Brady Lavoie has 21 RBIs on the season in 52 at-bats. He has two homeruns, six doubles and one triple.

Palomar found their pitching rotation once conference began. Freshman Jacob Widener (2-2) pitched a shutout against Southwestern College, the first complete game for any Comet this season. In 32.1 innings pitched, he has allowed 19 runs on 23 hits with 38 strikeouts. Widener has an ERA of 4.73. Another standout has been freshman Dane Padrnos (3-2). He has made eight appearances and has allowed 26 runs on 21 hits. He has 17 strikeouts on the season with an ERA of 4.67. Reliever Dylan Delvecchio (2-2-1) has allowed 29 runs on 43 hits and has struck out 31. Gavin Kinney (2-0-1), the lone veteran on the pitching staff, has allowed just 10 runs on 23 hits so far this season.

The Comets are 10-11 overall and 6-1 in conference play.
