Comets push past City for first PCAC win

HUNTINGTON BEACH, CA (3/25/2022) -- One week after falling to San Diego City College 3-2, the Comets turned the tables and locked down their first PCAC win in a 3-2 victory over the Knights on Friday and turned around to defeat Santa Ana College 4-1.

The 2s, 3s and 4s pairs all picked up wins on Friday. Playing up in their pairs, freshman Kenna Broach and sophomore Alana Lacangan played as the 2s instead of the 3s and won in an easy 21-17 and 21-12 match over the Knights. The duo is on a five game win streak after both matches on Friday. The pair has a lot of trust in another and they continue to work well.

"We're really scrappy and we don't let anything fall without a body falling," Lacangan said.

The 3s pair consists of freshmen Rachael Cooke and Brynn Wallander. The duo normally plays as the 4s. Cooke is a newcomer to the land of beach volleyball and it has been a transition for her.

On Friday she said they serving was really good and they continue to improve every game. They faced a tough City team. Cooke and Wallander won the first set in a 21-19 battle, dropped the second set 21-14 and bounced back to win 15-9 in set three.

Head coach Karl Seiler said, "The team played really well with a lot of great ball control and commitment to winning rallies."

The Comets are now 3-5 overall and 1-1 in PCAC play. They will host the next PCAC matches against MiraCosta College and Grossmont College on Froday at Warm Waters Beach in Carlsbad.
