PC plays state No. 10 Jags tough in loss, loses to 4 others

SAN MARCOS (1/9/2019) / (UPDATED 1-16 AND 1-24-2019) – The Palomar men's team dropped three heartbreakers to Southwestern on Wednesday, Jan. 9, to Grossmont on Wednesday, Jan. 16 and College of the Desert on Friday evening in its Pacific Coast Conference North Division opener at the Dome.

Along the way, those three teams overcame three big performance by Marek Sullivan (Torrey Pines High, Cal Poly SLO).

Friday, Jan. 18: COD 58, Palomar 54

Sullivan contributed a huge performance for the Comets on Friday night with 15 points as he went 5-for-9 from the field including a pair of 3 pointers, 21 rebounds, and an assist and a steal but the Roadrunners held off the Comets in a nail-biter.

Michael Chapman (El Camino High) totaled 12 points on 3-for-5 shooting from the field and a 6-for-6 night from the free throw line to go along with 9 rebounds and 2 blocks.

Anthony Routh (Murrieta Valley High) contributed 12 points, 3 rebounds and an assist, while Jamario Harris (Temecula Great Oak High) added 8 points, 3 rebounds, 3 assists and a steal and Anthony Smith (Vista Murrieta High) added 6 rebounds, 2 assists and 2 steals.

COD buried 10 three-pointers, 9 of them in the first half.

Wednesday, Jan. 16: Grossmont 60, Palomar 59:

Marc Cabrrera's basket with 17 seconds remaining gave the visiting Griffins a one-point win.

For the Comets, Harris totaled 21 points, including 3 three-pointers, 8 rebounds, 5 assists and a steal. Sullivan finished with 13 points, including three 3-pointers, 11 rebounds (4 on the offensive board), 4 assists, a block and 4 steals.

Hunter Perry (Vista Murrieta High) added three 3-pointers. Chatman had 10 points, 3 rebounds and a block. Smith added 3 assists.

On Wednesday, Jan. 23, the Comets traveled to San Bernardino Valley College and dropped their PCAC North Division opener to the host Wolverines 92-61.

Harris led Palomar with 25 points, 5 rebounds an an assist before fouling out. He was 9-for-15 from the field 4-for-7 from behind the 3-point arc and 3-for-4 from the free throw line. Marek Sullivan contributed 8 points, 5 rebounds, 5 assists and a steal. He was 4-for-5 on free throws. Chatman finished with 13 points, 8 rebounds and 4 blocks.
