State No. 14 Jaguars take big lead, hold off Comets 87-71

CHULA VISTA (12-16-2018) / (UPDATED 12-18-2018) – Palomar outscored Southwestern, which came into Tuesday night's non-conference game ranked 14th in the state, in the second half on Tuesday night in the Jaguars' new gym.

But it turned out to be way too little and way too late as the Jaguars opened up a 48-30 halftime lead and went on to beat the Comets for the second time this season 87-71.

Marek Sullivan (Torrey Pines High, Cal Poly SLO), Jacob Camargo (Oceanside High), just off the injured list, led four Comets in double figures.

Sullivan finished the night with 12 points, 9 rebounds, 5 assists and a steal, and Camargo went 4-for-7, all from behind the three-point arc.

Michael Chatman (11 points, 6 rebounds) and Anthony Routh (10 points) also scored in double figures.

Also for the Comets (5-7), Antonio Green (Vista High) contributed 9 points, 4 rebounds, 2 steals, 2 rebounds and an assist, and Stacey Holland (Murrieta Mesa High) had 8 points and 3 rebounds.

Palomar outscored Southwestern 41-39 in the second half.

For the Jaguars, Marquavan Stephens led with 25 points, 6 rebounds, 5 assists and a steal.
