Swim takes on the Golden West and Mt. SAC Invites

2-23-18

Women's

Women's Swim took Second Place out of eleven schools at the Golden West Sprint Invite with a point total of 254 just 3 shy of the winner's 257. It was Rebekah Blackburn who tallied the most for the Comets as she racked up 42 points on 3 first place finishes. Blackburn's finishes came in the 50 yard breaststroke, the 50 yard free, and the 100 yard free. In the 50yd breast, Blackburn out-swam 5 other girls with a time of 35.16, in the 50 yard free, she beat 11 other women with a time of 35.16, and in the 100 yard free, Blackburn "burned" 26 other women with a time of 56.06 seconds.

Jordann Heimback was right behind Blackburn as she had 2 first place finishes and a 3rd place finish. In her 500 yard free, she beat 2 other girls to take first place with a time of 5:32.52, beating her seed time of 5:39.99 by more than seven seconds. In her 100 yard fly, Heimback took 3rd place with a time of 1:04.24 just a little slower than her seed time of 1:05.82. Heimback took her other first place in the 100 yard IM, where she beat 30 other girls with a time of 1:08.45, slower than her seed time of 1:05.82.

Other swimmers for the Comets that took high finishes in their races were Sydney Thomas and Katrina Hope. Sydney Thomas took first place in the 50 yard fly out of 25 women with a time of 29.84, beating her seed time of 29.96. Katrina Hope took third place in the 50 yard backstroke out of 29 women with a time of 33.68 below her seed time of 34.37

Men's

It was Jarad Altman and Myles McCauley who sported good races for the Comets Men's Swimming team as MacCauley took a 2nd place finish and Altman took a 3rd place finish.

McCauley came up just short of first place sporting one of his best swims of the seasons with a time of 26.37 seconds beating 24 other men in the 50 yard fly.

Altman took 3rd place in the 200 yard freestyle ahead of 19 other swimmers with a time of 1:52.88 about a half second slower than his seed time of 1:52.49.

Women's

Swim traveled to the Marie T. Mills Aquatic Facility for the Mt. SAC Swimming and Diving Invitational to compete among 20 schools. Women's Swim collected some good times in this competitive meet as Jordan Heimback took our only first place on the day.

Heimback had good finishes in two different races, the 200 yard fly and the 200 yard free. Her first place finish came in the 200 yard fly where she stormed past 44 other swimmers with a time of 2:15.87 beating her seed time of 2:17.49. Her 6th place finish came in the 200 yard free, a race with 33 girls, with a time of 2:03.69 just below her seed time of 2:04.99.

Rebekah Blackburn had some solid races on the day as she had two top 5 finishes. Blackburn took 4th in the 200 yard breaststroke in a race of 41 women with a time of 2:41.40 a little slower than her seed time of 2:39.00. She took 5th in the 200 yard free with a time of 2:03.68 faster than her seed of 2:05.99

Men's

For the Men's swimming team we had 2 top 10 finishes by Toby fast and Jarad Altman.

Toby Fast took 7th place in the 1650 yard freestyle with a time of 17:48.51 with Altman finishing just behind him in 8th place with a time of 18:00.78.

 

Comets swimming will be looking forward to their next meet on Friday, March 9th, 2018 in Riverside for the Riverside Invitational 2 day event.
