Women’s Track Opens Season at Cuyamaca College

2-15-18

Women's Track opened their season on Thursday, 2-15-18, with a 4-way Meet hosted by Cuyamaca College in El Cajon. Palomar was among 3 other teams including Cuyamaca, El Camino, and Orange Coast College. With the exception of 1 returner for the Comets, this was the first collegiate meet for the rest of the athletes on the club.

Palomar had a good day out in El Cajon taking one first place and a few other top 3 finishes. It was Katie Preston, a freshman out of Vista High School, who overcame the opening day jitters and exploded to take our only first on the day, winning in the 100 meter dash with a time of 13.28, nearly 3 tenths ahead of the next finisher who belonged to Orange Coast. Preston also took second place in the 200 meter (27.32) just 2 tenths off of the first place sprinter. Other top 3 finishes went to Alexis Morales who got 3rd in the 400 meter dash, Hannah Lopez who got 3rd in the 800 meter, Marissa Horton who got 2nd in the 100 meter hurdles and 3rd in the high jump, Tria Ismay got 2nd in the 400 meter hurdles, and Betsabe Reyes got 3rd in the shot put, 2nd in the discus, and 3rd in the hammer throw.

Collectively this was a good first competition for the Lady Comets as they look to build on some of their top finishers and build on some times as they prepare for their next meet Saturday, February 24th at the Cerritos Opener in Norwalk, California.
