Allen, Lopez run to 5th-place finishes at PCAC meet; Men to Regional

OCEANSIDE / VISTA (10-27-2017) -- Palomar's Chris Allen and Hanna Lopez ran to fifth-place finishes in the men's and women's races at the Pacific Coast Athletic Conference Cross Country Championships hosted by the Comets on Friday at Guajome Park. Guajome's men's and women's courses both begin and end in Oceanside and run through part of neighboring Vista.

Allen ran the 4.0-mile men's course in 21:28.5 as Palomar's team qualified for the Southern California Regional meet this upcoming Friday in Santa Clarita. San Bernardino Valley's Carlos de la Torre placed first in the race in 20:30.7 as the Wolverines went 1-2-3 in winning a conference team title for the 22nd consecutive year. SBVC is in its second year as a member of the PCAC. 

Palomar's second and third finishers were Brendan Rhoderick (11th place, 21:58.8) and Matthew De Haven (23rd place, 22:43.1) out of 66 runners.

San Bernardino Valley scored 21 points in outdistancing second-place Cuyamaca (66 points). Following, in order, were San Diego City College with 97 points in third place, Palomar with 105 points in fourth, San Diego Mesa with 121 points in fifth, Southwestern with 128 points in sixth and College of the Desert with 176 points in seventh place.

In the women's meet, Lopez ran 3.1 miles in 20:02.9 in her fifth-place finish as she qualified for the Regional meet as an individual. The race winner was Cuyamaca's Alexia Thiros who was timed in 18:48.8 as the Coyotes took 1-2-3-4 in the race. Paommar's next finisher was Astrid Sanchez in 27th place in a field of 60.

Cuyamaca scored 17 points in winning the team title by 60 points over the second-place team, San Bernardino Valley, which finished with 77 points. The Coyotes and Wolverines were followed in team scoring by College of the Desert with 115 points in third place, Imperial Valley with 135 points in fourth, San Diego City with 138 points in fifth, palomar with 139 points in sixth, Mesa with 144 points in seventh and Southwestern with 164 poiints in eighth place.
