Comets start season hot

MISSION VIEJO, CA (9/10/2022) -- In their first tournament of the season, Palomar went 3-1 over two days at Saddleback College. The Comets opened play against Southwestern College in a nonconference match. The Comets easily won 12-2 as sophomore Anna Draves totaled three goals. The Comtes fell 12-6 to host Saddleback in their first true test of the season. On day two of the tournament, the Comets bounced back and defeated Rio Hondo 14-4 in game one and Chaffey College 16-5 to finish 3-1 on the weekend. 

Sophomore captain Elena Pena totaled 11 goals, while Draves finished with 10. Pena proved she can share the ball too, racking up 10 assists. Her defense has also improved in her sophomore season as she recorded 15 steals over the weekend. Goalie Ma. Rutherford had 15 saves over the weekend for an 88.2 save percentage en route to three wins.

The Comets will be back in action this weekend as they take head to Southwestern for a mini tournament on Saturday.
