Widdoss leads Comets to first PCAC win

SAN MARCOS, CA (9/24/2021) -- Snapping a six-game losing streak, Palomar picked up their first Pacific Coast Athletic Conference win of the season in a 3-1 decision over San Diego City College.

After dropping the first set 27-25, the Comets came back and dominated in the second set to tie the match at 1-1. The Comets kept rolling through the third set to win it 25-18. The Knights came out hot in set four, leading the Comets 19-14. The team that will not quit kept pushing and tied the set at 20 before a back-and-forth battle to settle the score at 25-23. 

The team was led by freshman Casey Widdoss (Mission Vista), who made sure to bring the hammer, to finish the night with 32 kills for a .569 percentage, a season-high for her. Setters sophomore Alana Lacangan (Rancho Buena Vista) and freshman Kenna Broach (Heritage) finished the night with 32 and 21 assists, respectively. Sophomore Courtney Hoffman (Escondido) served up five service aces and freshman libero Sophia Bolivar (Escondido) had 12 digs.

The Comets move to 3-6 on the season 1-2 in PCAC play after playing top-ranked teams around southern California. They will face PCAC opponent San Diego Miramar College on Wednesday at 5 p.m. on the road.
