Comets make splash at PCAC Championships

CHULA VISTA, CA (4/23/2022) -- After a strong start to the PCAC Championships, Palomar continued to build on its success. As a team, they brought home 11 first-place finishes on days two and three. 

A day after dominating the competition in the men's 400Y free relay, Jacob Rochman won the men's 400Y IM with a time of 4:11.52, while the second-place finisher had a time of 4:39.08. In the 100Y fly, Sophia O'Loughlin took second with a time of 1:06.50 and Kevin Brunia won the event on the men's side just edging Grossmont's swimmer by 0.84 seconds. Brunia topped the podium with a time of 51.00. 

It was a Comet first-place sweep in the 200Y free as Sydni Dickson (2:04.79) and Timothy Godin (1:43.02) finished in first. Brunia took home the men's 100Y breast gold as he cruised into first with a time of 57.28. Dickson podiumed again in the women's 100Y back. Coming down to the wire, she had the extra push needed to finish 0.05 seconds ahead of second. Rochman won the men's 200Y back with an easy time of 1:54.85, while David Oceguera took fifth with a time of 2:20.61. Elena Pena won the women's 100Y free with a time of 55.25. 

Palomar just missed out on a podium sweep in the men's 200Y breast. Calvin Anderson took first with a time of 2:27.35 while Cristos Birbilis took second with a time of 2:28.97. Adam Clements finished in fourth with a time of 2:38.15.

The final first-place finish was awarded to Rochman in the men's 200Y fly where he finished in first with a time of 1:55.80. With three first-place finishes over the weekend, Rochman was named the PCAC Men's Swimmer of the Year. 

On the diving side, Emily Gornall took second in the women's 3M with a final score of 144.85. Taylor Donovan brought home the gold in the men's 1M with a score of 210.30. Donovan was named the PCAC Men's Diver of the Year.
