Women pick up first win of season over San Diego City

SAN DIEGO, CA (10/1/19) – Palomar picked up their first win of the season over San Diego City College in a 4-0 thriller.

Valerie Hernandez got right to work and scored the first goal for the Comets at the 8-minute mark on an assist from Sandra Martinez. Alyssa Jackson joined in on the scoring after an assist from Martinez at the 31-minute mark. Still in the first half, Hernandez had a rebound goal from Dominique Driggs. In the second half, San Diego City scored on their own goal to make the score 4-0.

Driggs and Jackson both had three shots. Monica Saltz and Blanchard had two shots. Madison Weber, Martinez and Juliana Cervera all had one shot.

Goalie Kassandra Blanchard had four saves in the 74 minutes she played. Hernandez played 16 minutes and recorded one save.

Cervera received a red card and Hernandez and Driggs both received yellow cards. This was Driggs's second yellow card of the season and Hernandez's first yellow card. Because Cervera received a red card, she will sit out the next game.

The Comets are now 1-5-3 overall and 1-2-1 in conference play. They will be home on Friday to take on San Diego Mesa at 3 p.m.
