Wrestle-offs showcase Comet stars

Comets family and friends,

Last night, we hosted our intrasquad wrestle-offs in the Dome. It was awesome having the gym full of alumni and supporters to see our guys get after it, especially after several years with limited fans.

Men's Wrestling 2022 Intrasquad Results:

125/133: CJ Howard Tech Denzel Ayala, 16 – 1

141 (1): Owen Wilson Fall Nazir Noori

141 (2): Dustin Riquelme Fall Edgar Silva

149 (1): JJ Gutierrez Dec. Miguel Espinoza, 7 – 1

149 (2): Dorian Parker Dec. Zach Hudlow, 5 – 2

157 (1): Keoni Morgan Fall Jaxon Willard

165 (1): Jon Tanacio Tech Gabriel Meeks, 17 – 2

184: Arian Tabatabaei Fall Adler Osborn

197: Celso Silva Fall Jesus Rodriguez

285: Javier Montoya Dec. Angel Bello, 4-3

141 (3): Owen Wilson Fall Dustin Riquelme

149 (3): JJ Gutierrez Dec. Dorian Parker, 4 – 2

157 (2): Randy Lockwood Tech Keoni Morgan, 18 – 2

165 (2): Hassan Alexander Tech Jon Tanacio, 16 – 0

174: Daniel Hernandez Tech Gabriel Meeks, 18 – 2

While not everyone got the result they wanted, I'm proud of the team's overall energy and fight. The guys who lost will have the opportunity to improve and show what they can do in our upcoming competitions.

I just wanted to thank everyone who came out to support, those who helped things run smoothly (aside from me messing up the scoreboard about 19 times), coaches, athletic department staff, and of course, the team. These guys give a consistent effort and have a positive attitude every day, which goes a long way in this sport.

What's Next

On September 17th, we'll be at the Mt. San Antonio College dual tournament. This will be a formidable early-season test against some traditionally tough teams. Based on what I saw last night, we're ready to compete.

Lastly, I wanted to acknowledge our 2022 men's team captains: Owen Wilson, Randy Lockwood, Daniel Hernandez, and Hassan Alexander. These guys lead by example day in and day out and have earned this distinction.
