Marshall collects 275th win as Comets advance

SAN MARCOS, CA (3/2/2024) -- No. 6 Palomar College hosted No. 22 Santa Barbara City College in the second round of the 3C2A SoCal Regional Playoffs and won 83-58 on Saturday night in the Dome. Head coach Leigh Marshall collected her 275th career win as the Comets advanced to the third round of the playoffs where they will travel to No. 2 Glendale College next Saturday night.

Palomar exploded in the first quarter and jumped out to a 23-11 lead, but the Santa Barbara Vaqueros bounced back with a 20-11 second to cut the Comet lead to 24-21 at the half. Never losing the lead, despite the Vaqueros tying the game once, the Comets outscored them 49-27 in the second half. The big push in points came from the free throw line where the Comets finished 28-32 on the night and 22-25 in the second half. Palomar outrebounded Santa Barbara 50-35 and edged them in turnovers 28-29 en route to 27 points.

Freshmen Brooke Quintana and Nevaeh Mageo each finished with 16 points and sophomore Mackenzie Kozina finished with 15. Freshman Angelina De Leon finished with her second double-double of the night with 13 rebounds and 14 points. She also totaled one assist, four steals and a block. Sophomore Rokhaya Cisse finished with a team-high four assists, six rebounds and four steals to go along with seven points. 

Palomar, who has made their 16th regional appearance since the 2000-01 campaign, will head to Glendale College on Saturday night with a trip to the 3C2A State Championship Tournament on the line.
