SAN MARCOS, CA (3/3/2022) -- The No. 4 Comets found themselves in a similar situation facing No. 13 LA Trade Tech College for the second year in a row in the second round of the CCCAA State Playoff tournament. The Comets proved they're not done yet as they took down the Beavers 96-51 after almost a two-week hiatus.

After a slow start for the traditional fire-powered Comets, they jumped out to a 26-10 lead after one quarter. Sophomore forward/guard Sara Ahmadpour and freshman guard Deajanae Harvey combined for 13 points and six of the team's 10 rebounds. The Comets went on to finish the night with 51 rebounds to the Beavers' 26. Ahmadpour finished the night as the leading scorer with 22 points, knocking down six 3-pointers. She filled her stat line with two free throws made, nine rebounds (two offensive and seven defensive), one assist, one steal and one block. Freshman forward Kayla Williams had another solid performance for the Comets with 19 points, nine rebounds, two assists and one block.

As a team, the Comets shot 44.7% in the field and 30.8% beyond the arc. They caused 17 turnovers to score 23 points. Palomar was also dominant in the paint, scoring 48 of their 96 points.

Palomar will face No. 12 Cypress College, who upset No. 5 Glendale College with a 70-68 overtime win on Thursday night. The last time the Comets and Chargers faced one another, the Comets walked out with a 84-55 win back in December.

The two will tip in the Dome at 7 p.m. on Saturday, March 5. Fans are welcome with a mask.
