Comets prove point with dominant win over Spartans

SAN MARCOS, CA (1/20/2022) -- In a highly anticipated conference showdown, the Comets defeated the MiraCosta College Spartans 113-41 on Wednesday night. 

The last time these two teams faced on another, the Comets were stunned by the Spartans as MiraCosta took home the PCAC title. Last night, the Comets played with something to prove, the conference title is their's and no one is taking that away from them this year. While there were no fans in attendance, the Dome was rocking with constant cheers from both benches. Jumping out to a quick 30-11 lead after the first quarter of play, they headed to the team room at halftime leading the Spartans 67-20. 

Freshman guard Deajanae Harvey led the Comets in scoring, rebounds and steals as she put on a clinic. Harvey finished with 30 points, 10 rebounds, six steals, three assists and one block. That's her second double-double in as many games. Sophomore forward Arianna Pagan finished the night with 18 points, six rebounds and one assist. She was 5-6 from the free-throw line. Sophomore guard Sara Ahmadpour had 17 points, nine rebounds, five assists and three steals. Freshman guard Rory Hetrick rounded out the double-digit scorers with 13 of her own. She tacked on five rebounds, four assists and two steals. 

In one of their best team performances this season, the Comets out up 60 points in the paint while shooting 47.3 percent in the field. They caused 29 turnovers to score 43 points and outrebounded the Spartans 49-29. 

The Comets continue PCAC play on Friday when they face San Diego Mesa College at 5 p.m. on the road. Palomar is currently 13-2 overall and 3-0 in conference play.
