Comets pull out 59-41 win over Olympians

SAN MARCOS, CA (1/24/2020) – In a Pacific Coast Athletic Conference matchup, Palomar faced San Diego Mesa College and won 59-41.

Melena Bland was the star of the show as she got the job done for the Comets on both sides of the ball. She was stealing the ball, making baskets, rebounding and running out of bounds to save balls. In the 30 minutes she played, she scored 19 points, a career-high, grabbed three rebounds, had four steals and one assist. She was 6-12 in the field, going 3-4 at the three-point line, and was a perfect 4-4 at the charity stripe. Lilly Crabtree and Lauren Hecker both had seven rebounds. Crabtree had four steals and was 4-6 in the field. Nikki Mayoral was the only other Comet in double-digits scoring 11 points. She had three steals, one assist and one rebound.

The Comets improve to 19-2 overall and are 4-1 in conference play. Last week the Comets dismantled San Diego City College 100-32 and were then stunned in a 55-51 loss to MiraCosta College. The women were able to bounce back and defeat Imperial Valley College 80-28 on the road before facing Mesa. Palomar will be home on Wednesday night to face Southwestern College for a 6 p.m. tip.
