Taylor shines at Moorpark Crossover as Comets go 1-1

MOORPARK, CA (11/23/2019) – Women's basketball competed in the Moorpark College Crossover event this past weekend. In their first game, Palomar faced Moorpark College, the No. 1 team in southern California. The Comets lost 75-66 for their first loss of the season.

Aaliyah Taylor led the team with 19 points and had nine rebounds. She also had three steals on the defensive side of the ball. Nikki Mayoral and Imari Cooley were the only two other Comets who posted double-digit points. Mayoral had 15 and Cooley had 13. Gabby Sebit joined Taylor with nine rebounds.

The team had 47 rebounds and 16 assists. They committed 21 turnovers but caused 16 and were able to score 16 points off the turnovers. The Comets shot 36.6 percent in the field and 25 percent beyond the arc.

On the second day of the crossover event, Palomar faced Chabot College to bounce back and win 65-44. Aaliyah Taylor posted her first career double-double when she recorded 15 points and 11 rebounds, leading the team in both categories. Nikki Mayoral had another double-digit scoring game as she had 14 points. Lilly Crabtree, Mackenna Gentry, Taylor and Mayoral were all big parts in the Comet defense. Crabtree had six defensive rebounds and Gentry recorded seven and a steal. Gentry ended the night with 10 rebounds total. Mayoral had two steals. Taylor had eight defensive rebounds. Gabby Sebit had four blocks, one steal and nine rebounds.

Palomar posted 69 rebounds and 14 assists and shot better at the 3-point line at 27.5 percent. The bench scored 21 points and the team had 14 points in the paint.

The Comets are now 7-1 after the weekend and will face San Bernardino Valley College on Monday, Dec. 2 at 7 p.m. Mission Hills High School will face Fallbrook High School at 5:30 p.m. before the Comets play.
