Comets demolish Fighting Cacti

MT. SAN JACINTO, CA (11/7/2019) -- In their second game of the season, the Comets showed complete dominance over Copper Mountain when they won 99-34 in their first game of the Mt. San Jacinto College Lion's Club Tip-Off.

Palomar put up 44 points in the first quarter of play to Copper Mountain's four. The Comets when on a 32-0 run before Copper Mountain scored their first basket.

Dee Dee Valenzuela had 20 points for Palomar going 8-17 in the field and 4-12 beyond the arc. Gabby Sebit had 16 points going 7-12 inside the paint and shooting a perfect 2-2 at the charity stripe. Elexis Espina had 11 points and Melina Bland had 12 points.

The Comets totaled 68 rebounds with Lilly Crabtree and Sebit in double digits at 14 and 12, respectively. Palomar committed 10 turnovers but caused 25 and scored 33 points off the turnovers. The team put up 27 assists and the bench put up 56 points.

"We jumped on them early and I thought we played pretty hard. Our defense did a great job tonight and we really shared the ball offensively with four girls in double-digit scoring and Gabby and Lilly in double-digit rebounding," head coach Leigh Marshall said.

Palomar will face Mt. San Jacinto Friday at 5 p.m. in a rematch of last season's conference championship loss.
