Comets open season in a nail bitting win over LA Trade Tech

LOS ANGELES, CA (11/1/2019) – Women's basketball opened their season against Los Angeles Trade Tech College and won 65-63 in a nail bitter.

Freshman Gabby Sebit hit a layup with five seconds left in the game to give the Comets the lead. Trade Tech went to the charity stripe after a Comet foul with 0.3 seconds left and missed both free throws to the seal the deal for Palomar.

In the fourth quarter, sophomore Julie Saelee hit three three-pointers to end the day with 12 points, two assists and two rebounds. True freshman Elexis Espina had 10 points for the Comets, two assist and four rebounds. She was perfect going 3-3 on free throws, 1-4 on three-pointers and 3-6 on field goals. Freshman Tiaja Bennett took two charges and hit two big three-pointers for the Comets.

As a team, the Comets shot 25 percent from beyond the arc and 34.2 percent inside. They racked up 44 rebounds, 25 of them offensive and 19 assists, but committed 27 turnovers.

The women will be back in action on Nov. 7 when they travel to Mt. San Jacinto College the MSJC Lion's Club Tip-Off tournament where will face Copper Mountain at 5 p.m.
