Comets seeded No. 3 for Regionals, will host Compton

SAN MARCOS (4/27/2024) – Palomar College has been seeded No. 3 for the California Community College Athletic Association Southern Regional playoffs which begin May 3.

The Comets, who finished the season with a 35-4 record and their 10th consecutive Pacific Coast Athletic Conference championship, will host No. 14 seed Compton, which enters the postseason with a 21-16 record as the fifth-place team from the South Coast Conference.

The best-of-3 first-round series will be played at Palomar's new on-campus venue with Game 1 slated for May 3 at 2 p.m. Game 2 will be played May 4 at noon, with Game 3 if necessary to follow Game 2. The series winner advances to the second round of the Regionals starting May 10, with second-round winners advancing to the eight-team state tournament being held May 16-19 at West Valley College in Sarasota.

San Diego Mesa, which tied for second place behind Palomar in the PCAC, is seeded No. 13 with a 17-16 record and will be at No. 4 seed Mt. San Antonio (32-8), the South Coast Conference champion, for the first round of the Southern California Regionals.

Orange Empire Conference champion Fullerton (36-4) is seeded No. 1 and will host the lowest remaining seed of the play-in round. Defending state champion Cypress (33-7), the Orange Empire runner-up, is seeded No. 2 and will host the highest remaining seed of the play-in round.

Play-in games are being held April 30 and feature No. 17 Chaffey (21-17) at No. 16 Antelope Valley (16-23-1) and No. 18 Cuesta (22-15) at No. 15 College of the Canyons (16-24).

Other first-round matchups for the SoCal Regionals include No. 5 seed El Camino (28-12) hosting No. 12 Moorpark (28-8), No. 6 Long Beach City (30-10) hosting No. 11 Citrus (25-14), No. 7 Orange Coast (25-12) hosting No. 10 Bakersfield (25-14) and No. 8 L.A. Mission (25-13) hosting No. 9 Cerritos (28-12).

The top four seeds for the Northern California Regionals are No. 1 San Joaquin Delta (34-4), No. 2 College of San Mateo (33-5), No. 3 Consumnes River (33-7) and No. 4 West Valley (29-8).
