Amato and Craft named Player and Coach of the Year

SAN DIEGO, CA (5/3/2022) -- Palomar dominated the All-PCAC selections after winning their eighth consecutive conference title. Head Coach Lacey Craft took home Coach of the Year, while Allyson Amato (3B) brought in Player of the Year.

The entire Comet outfield (Cadee Herrmann, Alexia Terrazas, and Taylor Harrison) was named first-team, along with pitchers India Caldwell and Farrah Steffany. Shortstop Samarah Martinez and Amato were also named to the team. Malachy Russell-Millen (2B), Elisa Haas (C), and Kelly Nutter (UTL) made the second team and Mackenzie Lefebrve rounded out the team with an honorable mention. 

Amato was a star at third base for the Comets. She totaled 10 putouts and 26 assists with zero errors in conference play. At the plate, she had 18 hits, including four doubles. She drew two walks and recorded seven stolen bases. 

This season the Comets have shown power at the plate and speed on the bases. Amato's .500 batting average led the conference, as did Harrison's 40 RBI. Palomar swept the stolen bases category with Martinez, Harrison, Herrmann, and Amato all with 13 stolen bases. Lefebvre's five home runs were third best, while Terrazas tacked on two more late in the conference schedule to finish in fourth. 

Caldwell, the Comets' ace this season, finished the conference schedule 6-2 and pitched five complete games, including one shutout. She recorded 56 strikeouts, 14 of which came against Imperial Valley on Mar. 30. Her ERA was 0.42. Steffany finished the conference schedule a perfect 4-0 and pitched one shutout. SHe allowed three runs on 12 hits and recorded 17 strikeouts.
