Softball season wrap-up

SAN MARCOS, CA (3/20/2020) -- Softball was rolling on a four-game win streak when their season was suspended indefinitely and then later cancelled. Palomar's last game was a nine-inning thriller against El Camino College where the Comets came out on top in the 6-5 win. The Comets have three losses on the season, two to Mt. San Antonio College and one to Santa Ana College.

Palomar's pitching staff have been dominant in the circle this season. Sophomore Catalina Aguilar (10-1-1) has allowed 22 runs on 61 hits to go along with 36 strikeouts on the season. She had an ERA of 1.98. Freshman Alyssa Domingo (5-2) has an ERA of 2.01 and has allowed 17 runs on 46 hits. She has struck out 40 on the season, the second most of the conference. Both pitchers lead the conference with the lowest ERAs.

Sophomore outfielder Samantha Renteria leads the Comets in hitting with 15 runs on 28 hits. She had five doubles, three triples and four home runs to land her with 16 RBIs. Sophomore first baseman Rylee Penrod has 21 RBIs on the season and has 16 runs on 26 hits. She leads the team in doubles with nine and home runs with five. As a team, the Comets were hitting .346 with an on base percentage of .417.

Palomar is in first place in PCAC play with a 16-3 overall record and 4-0 conference record. The Comets were sitting in the No. 6 spot in the state.
