Comets drop state rematch to Mt. SAC

BAKERSFIELD, CA (5/21/2019) – In a rematch of last year's state championship final, the Mt. San Antonio College Mounties beat Palomar 7-4 in seven innings.

In the top of the first inning, pitcher Allie Hughen walked two batters and gave up one hit and one run before she was moved to play shortstop and Catalina Aguilar stepped in. 

The Comets tied it up in the second inning after McKenna Crawford (2-3) singled to center field and Taylor Riley (1-2) scored.

After a rough top of the fifth inning for the Comets, where they gave up six runs, Sarah Fisher (1-4) had a two-run home run to right field to make the score 7-3. In the bottom of the sixth Crawford had an RBI double down the left field line to score Riley again.

Hughen pitched 0.1 innings. Aguilar pitched 4.1 innings and had one strikeout and gave up eight hits and six runs. Audrey Braun pitched 2.1 innings and gave up one hit and had one strikeout.

Fisher received the Best Hitter award for the tournament after she hit over .500 on the weekend. She also received an infielder all-tournament selection. Jillian Zamora (wild card), Allie Hughen (utility) and Kylie Pignone (outfield) also received all-tournament selections.

The Comets finished their season 41-7 and as the CCCAA State Champion Runners Up.
