Softball beats Desert in run rule fashion

SAN MARCOS, CA (3/15/19) – In five innings, the Comets defeated the Roadrunners 8-0. This was their 11th run-rule win this season.

In the first inning, right fielder Megan Wachholtz hit a double but made it a triple on a Desert error and Sarah Fisher and Kylie Pignone both scored. After a single by catcher Kendall Kates, Wachholtz scored.

Left fielder Samantha Renteria hit a home run, bringing Kates home. The score was 5-0 at the end of the first inning.

Jillian Zamora got in on the scoring in the fourth inning when she reached first base on an error and got to third base, getting Antionette Robinson across home plate. Fisher had a sacrificial fly but was able to bring Zamora home for the eighth run.

Wachholtz went 3-3 on the day with one run and three RBIs. Renteria was 1-1 with two RBIs. Zamora was also 1-1 with one RBI.

Cataline Aguilar pitched four innings and had eight strikeouts and gave up two hits.

The team improved to 16-3 on the season and 5-1 in conference play. They are undefeated at home this season.

The Comets take the field again Saturday against El Camino. First pitch will be at noon at El Camino.
