Comets' Allen runs to second place in men's race at Coach Downey XC Classic in San Diego

SAN DIEGO (9-29-2017) -- Palomar's Chris Allen, a freshman out of Valley Center High School, ran to a second-place finish in the men's race at the Coach Downey Cross Country Classic on Friday. Allen toured the 4.0-mile course in 21:05, placing second behind the race winner, Eric Jimeneznava of Santa Ana, who was clocked in 20:07. Rafael Gonzalez from Long beach City College finished right bgehind Allen in third place, running a 21:20.

The race drew a 62-runner field.

Palomar finished fourth out of six community college in the men's division. San Diego City Collge won the team title with 42 points, followed by Santa Ana (58 points), Lojng Beach (73), the Comets (97), Southwestern (99) and College of the Desert (54).

Among the Comets' other runners, Brendan Rhoderick was 13th in the race in 22:02, Matthew De Haven 24th in 23:10, Brandon Freaner 25th in 23:25, Konner Rose 33rd and Carlos Gothan 39th.

Palomar's Hannah Lopez finished third in the women's 5-kilomter race in 21:10, in back of winner Destiy Diaz from Long Beach City College (20:56) and runner-up Sunny Scott from the Running Club at SDSU (20:07). Astrid Sanchez was the Comets' second finisher, placing 31st in a 52-runner field.
