Palomar has strong showing at Mt. SAC tourney

WALNUT, CA (9/21/2019) – Palomar went north to compete in the Mt. San Antonio College tournament over the weekend and went 3-1.

In the first game of the tournament, Palomar faced Fullerton College and won 7-6. Palomar scored three goals in the first quarter, one in the second, one in the third and two in the fourth quarter. Matt Kraszulyak scored two goals on seven shots and had three assists. Kevin McCollum had three goals on five shots. Nate Taylor had one goal on six shots and Zac Lemly had one shot on two shots. Goalie Dalton DeSpain had 10 saves and six goals against on 16 shots.

In the second game, they defeated Rio Hondo College 18-12 to go 2-0 on the day. The Comets scored five goals in the first quarter, four in the second, five in the third and four in the fourth. Taylor scored six goals on nine shots with one assist. McCollum had three goals on six shots and one assist. Scott Richards scored three goals on seven shots and had two steals. Truman Irion had one goal on three shots and one steal. Zane Bentley had three steals and one shot. Ryan Bowe-McLeod one goal and one steal. Lemly had one goal on two shots and one steal. DeSpain had five saves on 17 shots.

On the second day of the tournament, Palomar faced Cuesta College and lost 18-5. Janson Barela scored with seven seconds to go in the first quarter. In the second quarter, Taylor and McCollum both scored with McCollum scoring twice in less than a minute on assists from Bentley. The Comets' final goal came from Taylor on an assist from Richards in the fourth quarter. DeSpain had nine saves on 27 shots.

The final game, Palomar defeated Santa Monica College 13-8. Palomar had seven goals in the first quarter, four in the second and two in the third. All eight of Santa Monica's goals came from the first quarter. McCollum had three goals on three shots. McCollum also had three goals, but on four shots. Kraszulyak had two goals on seven shots. Lemly, Taylor, Richards and Bentley all had one goal. DeSpain had 11 saves on 19 shots.

Palomar will have their first home match on Wednesday when they take on San Diego Mesa College at 3:30 p.m.
