Comets keep pace at Invite #3

CHULA VISTA, CA (3/22/2024) -- Palomar competed in the PCAC Invite #3 at Southwestern College Friday afternoon. Each swimmer swam three events and diver Megan Gornall competed in both the 1M and 3M dives at San Diego Mesa College.

On the men's side of the competition, Manny Carriles competed in the 400Y IM, 1650Y Free and the 500Y Free. His best finish was third place in the 1650 Free with a time of 19:09.66. He then placed fourth in the 500 Free with a time of 5:34.06. Emmanuel De La Torre also competed in the 400Y IM and 1650Y Free. He finished fifth in both events with times of 4:51.77 and 20:07.19, respectively. Freshman Nathan Heon's events were the 200Y Free, 50Y Free and the 200Y Breast. He placed second in the 200 Breast with a time of 2:58.74. Lei Jin also swam the 400Y IM, 1650Y Free and 500Y Free. He placed second in the mile with a time of 19:03.13 and third in the 500Y Free with a time of 5:33.64.

Gornall swept the diving competition, finishing with a score of 190.05 on the 1M and 219.35 on the 3M. In the pool at Southwestern, Ayano Tsuda won the 500Y Free with a time of 5:31.55 and had a second-place finish in the 200Y Free with a time of 2:06.41. She also finished in fourth in the 100 Free with a time of 59.42. Isabella Chacon swam the 100Y Back, 50Y Free and the 500Y Free. Her best finish was in the 100 Back with a fifth-place finishing time of 1:13.79. Freshman Isabella Moncada competed in the 100Y Breast, 100Y Free and the 500Y Free. She placed fifth in the 500 Free with a time of 6:25.99. Maggie Tanner had a ninth-place finish in the 500Y Free with a time of 6:50.76. Rounding out the women's side was Devyn Wible, who swam the 100Y Breast, 100Y Free and 500Y Free. She finished in fourth in the 500Y Free with a time of 6:12.03 and had a fifth-place finish in the 100Y Free with a time of 1:01.95.

The Comets will take a week off before competing in the Orange Coast College Invitational April 5th and 6th.
