Comets excel on day one of PCAC championship

CHULA VISTA, CA (4/21/2022) -- On day one of the PCAC Championship held at Southwestern College, Palomar boasted several wins. 

The day got started with the women's 200Y free relay in which Palomar finished in second place with a time of 1:46.34. On the men's side of the event, Palomar also placed second with a time of 1:27.58 behind Grossmont's 1:26.42 time. 

In the women's 500Y free, Palomar had three finalists. Sophomore Sydni Dickson finished with a time of 5:43.70 to finish in third place. Victoria Maurer and Sophia O'Loughlin placed seventh and eighth, respectively. Timothy Godin completely dominated the men's side of the race boasting a time of 4:40.61, almost 10 whole seconds faster than second place. Cristos Birbilis finished third with a time of 5:15.66. Fellow Comets Calvin Anderson and Craig Anderson finished in fifth and eighth places, respectively. 

Elena Pena continues to swim her heart out, this time winning the 200Y IM with a time of 2:16.28. Anna Draves also competed in the race and finished fifth with a time of 2:40.63. On the men's side, David Oceguera and Adam Clements competed for the Comets and finished in seventh and tenth places. 

In the men's 50Y free, Kevin Brunia finished third with a time of 22.20 while the first place finisher had a time of 21.09. Jeremy Lovgren finished in sixth place boasting a time of 23.24.

The events everyone was looking forward to were the 400Y medley relays. Palomar's women's team finished in second place with a time of 4:29.90. But the headliner was on the men's side. Palomar finished with an outstanding time of 3:32.79. The second place relay finished with a time of 3:53.24. That's almost a 20-second difference between first and second place. 

After one day of competition, Palomar as a team sits in second place with 335 points. The men are in second place with 185 points and the women are sitting in third with 150 points. The Comets are sitting behind Grossmont who has 368 total points.
