Word and Marcus named All-PCAC first team

SAN DIEGO, CA (2/27/2024) -- Spivey Word, Thomas Marcus and Brandon Andrews were named to the 2023-24 All-PCAC Team.

Word and Marcus were named to the First Team, while Andrews received an Honorable Mention. Word had an outstanding season as a Comet, finishing in first place in total points (664) and field goals (227-515) in the state and second in points per game at 24.6. While the Comets struggled in the first round of conference play, Word and Marcus turned it on as Palomar went on a run to finish 14-14 overall and 9-7 in conference to finish in fourth place. Word finished with 36 points against MiraCosta College in an overtime win, 35 against Grossmont College the next game, and a conference-high 38 against Southwestern College in the double-overtime win. In the high-scoring San Diego City College game, Word finished with 32 points. He was scoring so much, he was almost scoring a point per minute.

While Spivey was high-scoring, Marcus was doing it all for the Comets. Starting later in the season, Marcus was the life the Comets needed. He finished with 33 points, a season-high, twice, once against Cuyamaca College and against San Diego City. He shot 52% in both games. Against Grossmont College, he went 11-12 at the free throw line to help lift the Comets past the Griffins. He finished with two double-doubles this season, once against San Diego Mesa College with 22 points and 12 rebounds and then against Cuyamaca with 33 points and 11 rebounds. Marcus had a season-high eight assists against Grossmont.

Andrews played selfless all season, earning him an Honorable Mention. He scored a conference-high 16 points against Southwestern and scored double-digits in all 12 conference games except four. He finished with 35 total assists in conference, 44 rebounds and 11 steals.
