Comets band together for first conference win

EL CAJON, CA (1/10/2024) -- The Palomar Men's Basketball team snapped their eight-game losing streak with an 89-70 win over Grossmont College on Wednesday night. 

Sophomore guard Spivey Word led all Comets with 26 total points after going 8-17 in the field. Word finished with five rebounds, one assist and five steals. Freshman Thomas Marcus added 18 points of his own behind a solid 11-12 performance at the free-throw line. He finished with four rebounds, eight assists, three steals and a block on the night. Sophomore guard Joseph Ogbebor finished with 12 points and sophomore forward Kryztian Walton rounded out the double-digit scoring with 10. Freshman Tore-Andre Gray came off the bench to finish with seven points. six rebounds, three assists, two steals and a block. 

The Comets came together to win as a team, behind a 74.3 shooting percentage at the free-throw line and 44.3% in the field. They caused 24 turnovers to score 19 points. They finished with 42 rebounds and 14 assists.

Palomar advances to 6-10 on the season and 1-3 in conference play. They will travel to Southwestern College on Friday night for a 7 p.m. tip.
