Comets push past Spartans

SAN MARCOS, CA (2/1/2023) -- After dropping a game against San Diego Miramar College last Friday night, the No. 26 Palomar College Comets needed to bounce back and get back in the win column. And they did just that as they defeated the MiraCosta College Spartans 101-87.

Locked in a back-and-forth battle, the Spartans and Comets had five lead changes and five ties throughout the 40 minutes. The Spartans jumped out to a quick six-point lead two minutes into the game, but the Comets came roaring back. It was just a three-point game at the half with the Comets out in front.

With the Dome rocking on a Wednesday night, the Comets came out a little flat in the second half and let the Spartans control the game. After a much-needed time out by head coach Ivan Patterson, the Comets got back on track.

With six minutes to go in the game, it was a one point game, thanks to an Adam Sevier trey assisted by Andrew Milot. On a missed jumper by MiraCosta's Kobe Smith, Chad Robinson for the rebound. This time it was Milot assisted by Sevier for the trey to take an 82-78 lead.

The tempo stayed that way through the end of the game. Sevier played arguably his best game this season stuffing his stat line with 25 points, three rebounds, four assists and three steals. Ciro Baeza finished with 19 points, four rebounds and two assists. Milot finished with 14 points, four rebounds and six assists.

The Comets advance to 16-7 on the season and 8-3 in conference play. They will head to Grossmont on Friday night for a 6 p.m. tip.
