11 Comets moving on to four-years

SAN MARCOS, CA (3/20/2024) -- 11 Comets have signed letters of intent to continue their college football careers across three levels. Jake Waltman (OL), Henry Davis III (DL), Chase Beardsley (LB) and Barrett Brennan (DL), will all be going to a NCAA Division I school. Omar Ali (DB), Jason Pugal (DB), Jude Steffen (OL), and Jayden Zavala (OL), will be competing at the NCAA Division II level. Shiloh Seau (DL), Caleb Armstrong (WR) and Aeneas Davis (WR) will be at the NAIA level. 

Waltman, the only Comet who received a First Team All-Conference honor, has committed to New Mexico State University, as has Davis III. Waltman, a force to be reckoned with, started every game for the Comets this season. On the right side, Waltman blocked and opened gaps for the Comet run game this season. On pass plays, his technique proved effective, allowing zero sacks on the season. Davis III, a Second Team ALl-Conference player finished with 22 total tackles on the season and had one intereption. He had a season-high six tackles against College of the Canyons and recorded 2.5 tackles for loss totaling 14 yards.  In the seven conference games, Davis III finished with 13 total tackles and 0.5 sacks for four yards. He had four tackles against Mt. San Jacinto College. 

Beardsley had a phenomenal career as a Comet. An Oregon native, Beardsley will be heading back to the Beaver State to play for Big Sky Conference member Portland State University. As a Comet, Beardsley had 50 tackles and 7.5 tackles for loss for 76 yards. This season he recorded a fumble recovery, an interception, and three pass breakups. Beardsley was left off the All-Conference team but still made his presence known. He recorded seven total tackles twice this season and had another game with six.

Brennan will be headed to the University of California, Davis to continue his football career. He only played one season for the Comets but finished with a Second Team All-Conference honor. Brennan finished the conference schedule with 16 total tackles, 10 solo. He had one sack for four yards. He had a season-best four tackles against Grossmont College on Sept. 30 and had three solo tackles against Southwestern College on Nov. 4. He also had a fumble recovery against San Diego Mesa College. HE totaled 23 tackles and two sacks for eight yards and recorded seven tackles for loss for 37 yards. An agile defensive lineman, he had two forced fumbles and one recovery on the season. 

Heading to Chadron State University are Omar Ali and Jason Pugal, two dynamite defensive backs. Ali finished the season with 37 total tackles and recorded a season-high of six at Saddleback College. He had two interceptions on the season and four pass breakups. Pugal played two seasons for the Comets and finished with 39 total tackles, a fumble recovery for 30 yards and two interceptions, one of which was returned for 23 yards, He also recorded two pass breakups this season. 

Armstrong has committed to Kansas Wesleyan University. He played in six games for the Comets this season and had nine receptions for 197 yards. He had a long of 62 yards and averaged 21.9 yards a game. 

Palomar is anticipating another 11 Comets to sign in the offseason. Congrats to all those who have already committed!
