Comets end season at Mesa

SAN DIEGO, CA (11/11/2023) -- Palomar College traveled to San Diego Mesa College for their final regular season game and lost 28-14.

The Comets, true to their identity this season, scored first. Quincy Herron caught a 7-yard pass from Kiah Reid to jump on the board early. Mesa punted on their opening drive, then fumbled the ball, then punted again. On their next drive, the Comet defense made the Olympians attempt a field goal and the kicker missed to keep the Comets on top 7-0. Reid then threw an interception on the next drive, which allowed Mesa to level the score at seven a piece. Reid then aired it out to younger brother Tate Reid for a 59-yard touchdown pass to put the Comets back on top 14-7 at the half. Mesa then scored 21 unanswered points in the third quarter before both teams were locked out of the endzone in the fourth.

Palomar totaled 244 yards of offense, 140 passing and 104 on the ground. Kiah Reid finished the night 11-26 for 140 yards and two touchdowns. Omarion Ireland ran the ball 18 times for 91 yards and caught two passes for 12 yards. Defensively, Palomar held Mesa to 311 yards, 136 passing and 175 on the ground. Jaiden Letua ended the night with one sack for 10 yards and a tackle for loss, along with Chase Beardsley, for two yards, to go along with a team-high eight tackles. Omar Ali had three tackles on the night and an interception, that at the time saved a potential Mesa touchdown. Kavyion Hicks finihsed with a 10-yard sack and totaled two tackles for loss for 11 yards anf three tackles. Barret Brennan had one fumble recovery.

The Comets end their season 3-7 overall and 2-5 in conference play.
