Eagles take flight against Comets

ESCONDIDO, CA (10/28/2023) -- Palomar College fell to Mt. San Jacinto College 37-14 on Saturday night.

The Comets opened up the scoring on a 21-yard run by Omarion Ireland to take a 7-0 lead after the PAT with six minutes to go in the first quarter. San Jacinto's Eagles responded with a 25-yard field goal to cut the Comet lead to three. The Eagles then scored 17 unanswered points to take a 20-7 lead. Palomar then scored on a 34-yard run by Raymond Roller to cut the lead down to one score. San Jacinto scored 17 more points to make the final score 37-14.

Palomar's run game was firing on all cylinders totaling 209 yards. Ireland finished the day with 16 carries for 129 yards. Roller finished with two carries for 32 yards and De'Marcus Carr finished with eight carries for 25 yards. On the defensive side, Chase Beardsley led the Comets with seven tackles and one tackle for loss for five yards. Caleb Scott had one interception for 22 yards and a pass breakup to go along with five total tackles. Jacob Sisson finished the night with a 10-yard sack and three tackles. 

The Comets fall to 2-6 overall and 1-4 in conference play. They will host Southwestern College next week for a 6 p.m. kickoff.
