Comets stung by Hornets on the road

FULLERTON, CA (10/21/2023) -- Palomar College fell to Fullerton College 48-19 on the road and dropped to 2-5 overall.

The Comets were the first on the board, taking a 7-0 lead with 11:19 left in the first quarter. Sophomore quarterback Kiah Reid found freshman receiver Micah Johnson for a 26-yard passing touchdown. The Hornets responded with 27 unanswered points to take a 27-7 lead at halftime. Palomar came back out and scored another touchdown, this time a 2-yard passing touchdown from Reid to Kyri Shoels. Fullerton answered right back with another touchdown. But Palomar wasn't going down just yet. Reid hit Shoels for a 28-yard touchdown to make the score 34-19. The Hornets answered back with 14 more points to make the final score 48-19.

Reid finished with 288 yards, three touchdowns and two interceptions. Sophomore running back Omarion Ireland finished the day with 11 carries for 26 yards and De'Marcus Carr finished with 16 yards on six carries. Johnson led the receivers with 83 yards on four receptions, while Shoels finsihed with 68 yards on six receptions. On the defensive side, sophomore back Jadon Bowen finished with six tackles. Joe Matthews finished with five tackles, a forced fumble and recovery and one tackle for loss for one yard. Barret Brennan ended the day with two tackles, a forced fumble and a sack for four yards. Kavyion Hicks had a sack for seven yards.

Palomar drops for 2-5 overall and 1-3 in conference play. They will be at home on Saturday for a 6 p.m. kickoff against Mt. San Jacinto College.
