Football Week Ten Preview

SAN MARCOS, CA (11/14/2019) – Football hosts the San Diego Mesa College Olympians on Saturday for their final game of the 2019 season.

The Comets are sitting at 2-7 overall and 0-4 in conference play. Mesa is 6-3 overall and 2-2 in the conference. Because of the two teams' proximity, a rivalry has been formed. Mesa won last year's matchup 41-21 on their home field. Palomar had won the previous two matchups.

Palomar is averaging 378.3 yards a game with 281 passing and only 97.3 rushing yards with an average of 30 points a game. They allow 387.6 yards on average, 175.4 rushing and 212.1 passing. Opponents score 36.8 points on average against the Comets. Mesa, like Palomar, averages more passing yards a game, sitting at 241, and less rushing, 92.3 for a total of 333.3. Their opponents total an average of 386 yards, 241.6 passing and 144.4 rushing.

Comet quarterback Rodney Thompson still sits atop the conference in passing yards per game at 260.7, as well as passing touchdowns at 21 on the season. Olympian receiver, Antwoine Ware is in third place in the conference in yards per game at 82, just edging out Johnny Armentrout who has 80.3. Armentrout is tied for first place for receiving touchdowns at 10 on the season. Ware has eight.

On the defensive side, Comet Kameron Camp is averaging 7.4 tackles a game while the top Olympian, Isaiah Sayles averages 5.8. Julian Sanderlin has 6.5 sacks on the season for the Olympians, while several Comets have two. Camp has 8.5 tackles-for-loss on the season totaling 18 yards and Tyrus Hodgins has eight totaling 29 yards.

This game has been named the Palomar College Alumni Appreciation Game and all Comet football alumni are invited to join us. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m. at Escondido High School.
