Football Week Five Preview

SAN MARCOS, CA (10/2/19) – Palomar faces Grossmont this week in a North versus South battle going back years. Palomar has won the last five meetings between the two schools, with Grossmont's last win against Palomar coming in 2013 in a 48-14 win.

Palomar enters this week game at 1-3 and Grossmont enters as 0-4. Both teams are coming off a loss to Ventura College and San Diego Mesa College, respectively and both are seeking a win Saturday night.

Last week against Ventura, Palomar posted 505 offensive yards with quarterback Rodney Thompson throwing for 407 yards. In the 50 passing attempts, the offensive line gave up one sack. Thompson, running back Damon Wigand and receiver Johnny Armentrout are all coming off season-high games.

The Comets are only averaging 93.5 rushing yards a game this season and passing for 294.3 yards. Defensively, Palomar has allowed an average of 164 rushing yards and 195.3 passing yards for a combined total of 359.3 yards.

The Grossmont Griffins are averaging 59.5 rushing yards a game and 222 passing yards for a total of 281.5 yards. They have allowed 479.5 total yards, 203.5 rushing and 276 passing. The Griffins are averaging 16.3 points a game and are allowing an average of 43 points.

The two teams will face off Saturday at 6 p.m. at Escondido High School.
