Comets back in playoffs as No. 2

SAN MARCOS, CA (4/28/2024) -- After finishing the regular season 30-9, Palomar College Baseball has been given the No. 2 seed in the 3C2A SoCal Regionals and will host No. 23 College of the Canyons.

The two teams will square off in a best-of-three series starting on Friday with a 2 p.m. game. Game two will happen Saturday at 11 a.m. and the "if necessary" game three will be played approximately 45 minutes after the conclusion of game two.

Cerritos College was granted the No. 1 seed at 32-8 with Palomar at No. 2. Golden West College, who the Comets split with earlier this season, is the No. 3 at 28-12 and Los Angeles Valley College rounds out the top four at 34-6. The Comets and Monarchs met up in February for a single game and it was the Comets coming away with the 5-3 victory.

Familiar faces in the Pacific Coast Athletic Conference also made the postseason. Southwestern College, who finished in second place in the PCAC, is in at No. 17 with a 23-17 record and San Diego City College is in as the No. 22 seed at 22-18.

This is Palomar's third top-five seed in as many years and their third consecutive year hosting the first round. The winner of this series will advance to next week's Super Regionals which will be in a double elimination format.
