Comets take game one in regional

SAN MARCOS, CA (5/5/2023) -- No. 1 seeded Palomar College took game one over No. 24 East Los Angeles College 11-2 of the 3C2A SoCal Regional. 

The Comets struck first with a 3-run first inning and tacked on another run in the fourth to take a 4-0 lead. Palomar scored two more in the fifth and sixth innings and three more in the seventh for a 11-0 lead. Noah Lazuka and Caden Szuba each finished the day with two RBI, while Jack Sanders, Carter Hain, Kyle Harvey and Colby Rafail each had one. The Comets got the job done on small ball and walks handed out by the Huskies to get base runners.

Comet ace Kyle Carr was the starting pitcher and went 7.0 innings. He allowed just five hits, issued no walks and struck out 10. Wyatt Hamro came in relief for the eighth and allowed one hit, struck out one and walked one. The Comets had the shutout going until the ninth inning when the Huskies broke it up on a two-run home run in the top of the ninth. 

Palomar takes a 1-0 lead over East LA and will be the visiting team in game two on Saturday morning. First pitch is scheduled for 11 a.m. on Saturday morning.
