Extra base party gives Comets sole possession of first place

SAN MARCOS, CA (3/19/2022) -- The No. 8 Comets are now in sole possession of first place in PCAC play after sweeping the Grossmont College Griffins in their opening series. 

The high-powered offense Palomar has been putting on display was in full effect against Grossmont as they won game one 11-2 and game two 20-11. Palomar was in control the entirety of game one, never trailing. Scoreless heading into the third inning, they opened it up and scored six runs. In Saturday's game, the Comets trailed 3-0 after the top half of the first, but weren't worried. Outfielder Jack Sanders hit a 3-run homerun to even the score. It was extra bases for the Comets from there. Palomar recorded eight doubles and three triples and another home run by catcher Devlin Lindeman to hit for the cycle for the seventh time this season. 

Logan Parker started Thursday's game for the Comets and moved to 5-0 on the season. Through six complete innings, he aloowed two runs on six hits and recorded five strikeouts. Christian Wood was credited the save when he through three perfect innings. On Saturday, Dylan Delvecchio got the nod for the start. Through five innings, he allowed five runs on seven hits with seven strikeouts. He is now 3-0 on the season. Trent Lopez, Ryan Armentrout, Jack Kelley and Ethan Sally each pitched one inning of relief. The bullpeen llowed six runs on four hits. 

Palomar is now 16-6 overall and 6-2 in PCAC play. They will face San Diego Mesa College on Tuesday at home for a 2 p.m. start.
