Comets even series in dramatic fashion

SAN MARCOS, CA (3/10/2022) -- Following a 10-5 loss to San Diego City College on Tuesday, Palomar bounced back to even the series with a 8-6 win on Thursday. 

Despite jumping out to a 4-2 after one inning on Tuesday, the Comets quickly fell behind after a three-run third inning for the Knights. Second baseman Bryson Hashimoto homered to get the Comets rolling the first inning. First baseman Tanner Lappin was hit by a pitch and then stole second. Hot hitter, catcher Devlin Lindeman then singled to score Lappin. Following another walk for the Comets, third baseman Kyle Harvey singled to bring Lindeman home. Shortstop Erik Larsen then singled to score the final run of the first inning for the Comets.

Stephen Klenske was the starter for the Comets. He pitched 2.2 innings in which he allowed six runs on four hitsand recorded five strikeouts. Christian Wood came in in relief and pitched 3.1 innings where he allowed three runs on six hits. Klenske was the losing pitcher and moved to 2-1 on the season.

In game two of the series, the Comets won in dramatic fashion. Tied at six in the bottom of the ninth, Derek Augenstein singled with one out. That brought Lindeman to the plate, who homered for the sixth time this season. The Knights jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning and the score stayed that way until the Comets got one run back in their half of the fourth. The Comets came up big in the fifth to take a 4-2 lead over the Knights thanks to single RBIs by Jackson Garrett and Lindeman. Garrett then scored on an error by the leftfielder. The final four runs for the Knights came at a one run an inning beginning in the sixth. 

Comet ace Logan Parker started for Palomar on the mound in Thursday's game. Through six innings, he allowed three runs on six hits and struckout six batters. Ryan Amrnentrout, Blake Ignaciak and Austin Shroeder each pitched an inning of reflief for the Comets and Shroeder picked up his first win this season as he moves to 1-1. 

Palomar moved to 12-6 on the season and are now 2-2 in PCAC play. The Comets will begin their first series of the season against Imperial Valley College on Saturday March 11 at home. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
