Catching up around the diamond: Baseball Alumni Report

Opening Weekend has come and gone and it's time to check in to see how our currently playing alumni performed. 

 

Pitchers

  • Braden Olthoff – Tulane University; Redshirt Junior
    • Olthoff pitched 5.1 innings on opening day for Tulane. He had seven strikeouts, walked one and allowed five hits against Louisiana-Lafayette. The Waves went on to win 3-2.

 

  • Everhett Hazelwood – Kansas University; Redshirt Junior
    • Hazelwood had his start against South Dakota State. He pitched four innings where he allowed two runs on two hits, walked three and recorded three strikeouts. The Jayhawks lost the second matchup against the Jackrabbits 8-5 but took the series 2-1.
  • Kevin Palm – University of Texas, Rio Grande Valley; Graduate Student
    • Palm pitched three innings against (RV) Baylor where he recorded three strikeouts, walked one and allowed five runs on eight hits. The Vaqueros got the win 9-8 and went on to win the series 2-1.
  • Andrew Reitmeyer – Houston Baptist University; Junior
    • The Huskies opened play against Rice University. Reitmeyer pitched three innings in game one. He allowed one run on two hits, walked two and struck out one.  The Huskies split the series with Rice and Reitmeyer was credited the win in game one. He also made an appearance in game two where he allowed one hit before being taken out.
  • Russell Grant – Santa Clara University; Senior
    • Grant got the start against UC Santa Barbara on opening day. Pitching two innings, Grant allowed two runs on four hits, walked one and struck out three.

Catchers

  • Haydan Hastings – Tulane University; Redshirt Junior
    • The redshirt junior started his season for Tulane as a catcher. He had two assists on opening day and 10 putouts. He had one at-bat for a strikeout and two walks. While the Waves for the first win, they lost the series 2-1 to the Ragin' Cajuns.

Infielders

  • Jake Thompson – Oklahoma State University; Junior
    • The infielder played in two games against Wichita State. He totaled six at-bats totaling in two hits, two RBIs, a walk, and a stolen base. The Pokes went on to take the series 2-0 after three canceled games.

 

  • Conor McKenna – Oklahoma University; Redshirt Senior
    • McKenna had five at-bats in the series against Omaha, including a grand slam in their win on Monday. The Sooners split the series with Omaha.
  • Noah Hemphill – Missouri Baptist University; Sophomore
    • Hemphill totaled five at-bats against Oklahoma City and York on Monday. Batting lead-off against Oklahoma City, Hemphill had one walk, one RBI, one run, two strikeouts and was hit by a pitch. In game two, he had three at-bats where he had two hits, one RBI, and one walk. The Spartans defeated Oklahoma City 11-2 in seven innings and York College 2-1 in seven innings.
  • Mitch Moralez – Utah Valley University; Junior
    • Utah Valley opened their season against Saint Mary's and split the series 2-2. Moralez started in all four games and had 14 at-bats. HE had five hits, two RBIs, two walks, two stolen bases, and three strikeouts. He also had three assists on the fielding side.
  • Nathan Soriano – Houston Baptist University; Senior
    • Soriano appeared in all three games against Rice for opening weekend. He totaled 11 at-bats where he had four RBIs on four hits, a triple, one stolen base and three strikeouts. On the fielding side, he had nine assists.
