Four Comet baseball players verbally commit to four years

SAN MARCOS, CA (4/13/2020) – Four Comet baseball players have verbally committed to four-year schools.

Sophomore infielder Braden Sanford has committed to Houston Baptist University. Sanford played two seasons for the Comets. The West Hills High alumni played in 46 games as a Comet and had a .363 career batting average. This past season, the Comets for in 19 games before the season was cut short due to COVID-19. Sanford had a .962 fielding percentage at second base.

Micah Anselmo, the catcher for the Comets, committed to Chico State University. Behind the plate, Anselmo had 203 total putouts, 129 of which came this past season. He had a .986 career fielding percentage. In 35 games played in his career, the Classical Academy alumni had 25 hits including four doubles for 13 RBIs. Anselmo finished with a .333 batting average.

Freshman right-handed pitcher, Chris Bryant has verbally committed to the University of Colorado, Colorado Springs. The pitcher had five appearances this season as a reliever. He recorded a career-high three strikeouts against Imperial Valley College after allowing one hit in the one inning pitched that game. Bryant pitched a total of four innings allowed seven runs on 11 hits with a total of five strikeouts.

Gavin Kinney, a sophomore from La Costa Canyon High School, committed to Chico State University and had 14 appearances across two seasons for the Comets. Kinney was 2-2-1 this season pitching 24 innings as a reliever. He allowed 10 runs on 23 hits and struck out 16. He had a career ERA of 5.34.

Houston Baptist, an NCAA Division I school, was 6-11 before the season ended and competes in the Western Athletic Conference. Chico State, an NCAA Division II school, was 15-7 before the season ended and competes in the California Collegiate Athletic Association. UC, Colorado Springs, an NCAA Division II school, was 11-6 before their season ended and competes in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference.
