Comet defense falls short to Lancers

SAN MARCOS, CA (2/12/2020) – Palomar faced Pasadena City College on Wednesday afternoon and lost 12-8. The Comets were looking to come back from Tuesday's 5-1 loss to Riverside City College but couldn't get the job done.

Down 3-0 in the third inning, Palomar was able to put four runs on the board to take the lead. The Lancers came back in the sixth inning to knot the game at four. In the bottom of the seventh, the Comets took control and scored an additional four runs on four hits. Bryce Roe had a leadoff walk. After a sacrifice by Braden Sanford, Brandon Luna singled to score Roe. Luna then stole second and Derek Bostater singled to bring Luna home. Bostater followed Luna's lead and stole second. Cameron Rowles then singled to score Bostater and advance to second on the throw. After a pitching change by the Lancers, Evan Ianniciello pinch-hit and singled to advance Rowles to third. Michel Anselmo then grounded out in sacrifice to score Rowles.

The Comets went through nine pitchers in the loss. Jacob Widener, a San Marcos High School alum, got the green light to start. He allowed three runs on two hits to go along with four walks and four strikeouts. Ethan Sakata came in the third inning and allowed two hits and walked one batter. Dylan Delvecchio pitched three innings where he allowed one run on three hits and walked one batter. Replacing Delvecchio in the eighth inning was Chris Bryant who allowed three runs on two hits. He had one walk and one strikeout. Trevor Riley was the losing pitcher. He allowed three runs on three hits. The pitching staff allowed 12 runs on 15 hits with nine walks and five strikeouts.

The Comets will have a rematch against Riverside City College on Saturday, Feb. 15 at home. First pitch will be at 1 p.m.
