Comets come back to defeat Hornets

SAN MARCOS, CA (2/1/2020) – In their second home game in two days, the Comets faced the Fullerton College Hornets and won 15-11. This was the third time in the four games they have played this season the Comets have had to come back from a deficit to win. Down 4-0 in the bottom of the sixth, Palomar needed to get something brewing before things got out of hand. Palomar was able to cut the deficit in half to make it 4-2. The Hornets came back in the seventh with two more runs, but the Comets answered with five to take the lead at 7-6. The gates opened wide for Palomar in the eighth where they were able to score eight runs and in the ninth, Fullerton could only answer with four runs for a final score of 15-11.

Derek Bostater finished the day 4-5 with five RBIs. Brady LaVoie was 3-4 with one RBI and one run. Jaisten Cabatbat went 2-6 with one RBI and two runs. Cameron Rowles was 0-3 but had two RBIs and three runs.

Jordan Goldman was the Comets' starting pitcher. He allowed two hits, one run, walked four and had one strikeout. Dylan Delvecchio took over in the second inning with one out. He allowed four hits, three runs, walked one and struck out five. In the fifth inning, the Comets went with Chip Korbacher who allowed two runs on three hits with one walk and two strikeouts. Chris Bryant pitched the first part of the seventh inning and allowed one run on two hits. Jacob Cosner was the winning pitcher (1-0). He came in with two outs and walked one batter. Dimitri Ivetic allowed three runs and walked three. Christian Lewis allowed one run and walked one. Cade Swenson pitched one inning and allowed one hit and struck out one.

Palomar is now 3-1 overall and will travel to Orange Coast College on Tuesday, Feb. 4. First pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m.
