Eight Comet baseball players picked up all-conference honors
5/9/2019 – After a third-place finish in conference play, eight Comets received all-conference selections.
Pitchers Braden Olthoff and Everhett Hazelwood received first team all-conference honors. Andrew Reitmeyer picked up a selection as a reliever. Outfileder Noah Hemphill and infielder Justin Folz rounded out Palomar's first team selections.
Olthoff was a pitcher who started eight conference games for the Comets. He averaged 9.46 strikeouts a game and recorded 60 in conference play. In the 57.1 innings he pitched, he allowed 34 hits and 15 runs.
Hazelwood was a starting pitcher for the Comets this season. He started seven games in conference and recorded five wins. In the 45.1 innings he pitched, he allowed 32 hits and 15 runs. He walked 16 but struck out 46 with an average of 9.18 a game.
A reliever pitcher, Reitmeyer had nine conference appearances. He had two saves and two losses. In the 12.1 innings he pitched, Reitmeyer gave up 15 hits and eight runs. He had 29 strikeouts in conference.
Hemphill is a freshman from Las Vegas. His conference batting average was .418 and he had 14 RBIs. Hemphill had 38 conference hits and stole five bases.
Folz played in 22 conference games for the Comets and had 29 hits. His conference batting average was .377 and he had 15 RBIs. He had one home run in conference.
Evan Ianniciello, Trevor Omahen and Jaiston Cabatbat received an honorable mention selection.
Ianniciello played in 22 conference games for the Comets. He had 30 hits and three home runs and had 37 RBIs. His conference batting avUHerage was .366.
Omahen had a batting average of .261 in conference play and .313 in conference. The sophomore infielder had 24 hits and 17 RBIs in conference.
Cabatbat, a freshman from Hawaii, played in 22 conference games and had 23 hits in those games. His conference batting average was .315. Cabatbat had nine RBIs in conference play.
