Spires and Jarvis upset Mesa as Comets split the day

OCEANSIDE, CA (4/19/2024) -- On the final day of the regular season the Comets came to play. Janell Spires and Sonsi Jarvis upset San Diego Mesa College's No. 1s to give the Comets one team point in the final score. While Mesa ended up winning the match 4-1, Spires and Jarvis weren't messing around. They took the first set 22-20 but the Olympians responded in set two with a 21-12 thumping. But Spires and Jarvis were determined and pulled out the set three win 16-14 thanks to some big defensive plays by Spires and kills by Jarvis. They went on to defeat San Diego City College's No. 1s as well to go 2-0 on the day.

Ashlynn Craven and Cadence Young are the No. 3 pairing for the Comets. In the match against San Diego City, they were moved up to the No. 2 spot after an injury. The two battled it out against City but came up short 22-20 in set one. They regrouped and made some adjustments win set two 21-18 to force the third set. The two teams went back and forth in a gritty match, but City came out on top 15-13. All the other Comet pairs defeated the Knights to win the match 4-1.

Palomar will compete in the PCAC Individual Pairs Tournament at Mt. San Jacinto College on Wednesday. It is a single elimination bracket. All pairs who advance will play on Friday at MSJC.
