Comets keep it close, but Jets take off

SAN DIEGO, CA (3/29/2024) -- Palomar College beach volleyball had two matches Friday morning, one against MiraCosta College and a second against host San Diego Miramar College. While the MiraCosta Spartans got the best of the Comets, a 5-0 sweep, the Comets fought back against the Jets, but couldn't pull it out in a 3-2 loss.

In their second match of the day, 1s pair Sonsi Jarvis and Janell Spires pulled out a 3-set win. They lost the first set 21-10, but collected themselves to pull away with set two in a dominating 21-13 fashion to force a third one. In a tight battle, it was Palomar who came out on top in the 15-10 set to secure a team point. The 5s pairing of Maggie Gable and Kylana Madayag also won in three. Similar to their teammates, they also dropped the first set, but in a much closer battle, 21-18. They then turned it on in the second set and won 21-18 to force a third set. In a back-and-forth battle, Goble and Madayag outlasted the Jets in a 15-13 victory to claim the second match point for the Comets. In the 4s pair, Kaihla Granger and Claire Henderson similarly dropped set one but bounced back in set two to win 21-18. That was all they had as the Jets took off in the final set to win it 15-2.

Palomar moves to 4-9 overall and 0-6 in conference play. They are scheduled to play Grossmont College and San Diego City College on Friday.
